David Howard was a man who truly never met a stranger. Known for his infectious warmth, quick humor, and genuine kindness, he lived his life with a rare brand of good juju that lifted everyone around him. Whether he was being celebrated as a favorite leprechaun on St. Patrick's Day or simply sharing a smile with a friend, David's presence made the world feel a little brighter.
Life Changed in an Instant
In early March 2026, David's life changed in an instant. After seeking emergency care for severe abdominal pain, he received the devastating diagnosis of metastatic pancreatic cancer that had already spread to his liver.
Facing the Monster
The battle that followed was nothing short of heroic. David faced the monster of cancer with incredible grit, enduring intensive chemotherapy, repeated surgeries, and stays in the ICU at the Cleveland Clinic. Through every setback — from kidney failure requiring dialysis to the physical toll of the disease — David remained resilient. He found his strength in the overwhelming outpouring of love from his community. He celebrated the small victories, like the simple joy of an ice pop, with the same courage he brought to his toughest days.
A Peaceful End
On March 26, 2026, surrounded by the people who meant the most to him, David's long and courageous fight came to a peaceful end. He left this world on his own terms, full of the same spirit that defined his life.
Turning Grief Into Purpose
David spent much of his life as a cornerstone of his community, always looking out for others. In his honor, we have transitioned our grief into a mission he would be proud of — establishing The David C. Howard Foundation.
David was a dedicated member of the restaurant and service industry — a profession filled with hardworking individuals who serve others every day but often struggle to care for themselves.
The David C. Howard Foundation was born out of a desire to turn a heartbreaking loss into a lasting legacy of care. Many in the service industry face significant barriers to healthcare, often working without comprehensive benefits while balancing the physical demands of their jobs.
